Established in 1993 as a Unit of the Australian College of Paediatrics (now the Division of Paediatrics of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians)

The unit has developed an active and efficient case reporting system to enable national surveillance of selected uncommon diseases of childhood (surveillance commenced May 1993)
